Newsletter (April 2010)
Dear supporters,
Welcome to the first 'penny a day' newsletter. I'm writing to let you know what your money is achieving in East Africa.
I am pleased to report that many young people have been supported in their education, like Joseph Makumbi from Uganda.

He writes: "It is due to your effort and your unending kindness that I was able to return to school and do my advanced level education."
You can read the full letter of thanks from Joseph here.
The charity also helps Mercy, who was brought up by her grandmother in Kakamega, Kenya, through school. Mercy's aunt writes: "Asante sana [Thankyou very much] for it has relieved her grandmother from the strain."
Many other families in difficult situations have also benefited from your help. Meina, a single mother in Arusha, Tanzania (pictured), received just £50 to help with household expenditure, which she saw as "great loving from you to my family."
Beatrice (Buyangu, Kenya) lost her husband to AIDS and is HIV positive herself. The family lives with her father in law, who has had a stoke. One of Beatrice's children is being sponsored through a secretarial course to improve her work prospects. The family rears chickens as the land cannot support crops; your help supports this small enterprise by buying chicken feed.
These are a few examples of the great value of your money to those who have so little. All of our current beneficiaries are listed below, but there are many more who are asking us for help. Please tell as many people as you can about the charity and direct them to our website:
There are always other needy families and individuals that can benefit from your kindness. You can find more details about some of the charity's work on the website too.
Many thanks for your continuing support,
Saeed Ghinai
